Step-by-Step Process to Port Vi to BSNL (February 2025)

Step 1: Clear Pending Dues- If you have a postpaid connection with Vi, ensure all your pending dues are cleared before initiating the porting process. Unsettled dues can lead to rejection of your porting request.

Step 2: Obtain a Unique Porting Code (UPC)- To start the porting process, send an SMS from your Vi number to 1900 in the following format: PORT <Your 10-digit Mobile Number>. For example, if your number is 9876543210, you would send PORT 9876543210 to 1900.

Step 3: Validity of the UPC- The UPC is valid for 15 days in most regions. However, in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and North East licensed areas, the UPC is valid for 30 days. Ensure you complete the porting process within this validity period, While in message validity of UPC is mentioned, please refer same.

Step 4: Visit a BSNL Store or Authorized Retailer- With your UPC in hand, head to the nearest BSNL store or an authorized retailer. Bring your UPC, a passport-sized photograph, and a valid ID proof. At the store, you will fill out a Customer Application Form (CAF) and pay a nominal porting fee. Currently, BSNL is not charging any fees for porting into their network.

Step 5: Submit Documents and Get a New BSNL SIM- Submit the required documents along with the filled CAF to the BSNL representative. They will provide you with a new BSNL SIM card. Keep this SIM card safe until the porting process is complete.

Step 6: Approval and Activation- Vi and BSNL will process your porting request, which may take a few days. You will receive an SMS from BSNL with the date and time when your number will be ported. On the specified date, your Vi SIM will stop working, indicating the completion of the porting process.

Step 7: Replace Your SIM– At the specified time, replace your Vi SIM with the new BSNL SIM card. If you encounter any issues, contact BSNL customer care at 1800-180-1503 (From Any Number) or 1503 (From BSNL) for assistance.

Notes while Port Vi to BSNL

• As per government regulations, if you are porting within the same telecom circle, the number will be activated within 3 working days after successful validation.
• For porting to another telecom circle, it will generally take up to 5 working days.
• However, please note that the exact time period may vary depending on the operators and circles involved. Your services will not be interrupted during the porting process.

Reasons for the Rejection of MNP Application

An MNP application can be rejected under the following circumstances: Port Vi to BSNL

• If the subscriber has outstanding dues or has yet to pay a mobile bill.
• If the subscriber has not completed 90 days of service with the previous / current operator.
• If the mobile number is under the jurisdiction of a court.
• If the subscriber’s area, region, or city is not served by the telecom operator to which porting is requested.
• If the Unique Porting Code (UPC) provided by the subscriber does not match or is invalid.
• If the mobile number is under contractual obligations or has pending contractual obligations to be fulfilled.

A subscriber can withdraw a porting request by sending an SMS to 1900 within 24 hours of submitting the request. The SMS should contain the word ‘CANCEL’ (case-insensitive) followed by a space and the ten-digit mobile number for which the porting request is to be cancelled. It’s important to note that once the Unique Porting Code (UPC) has been submitted, withdrawal is no longer possible. Additionally, any porting charges paid by the customer are non-refundable after withdrawal.
